I've been thinking about planting blueberries for a few years, but a sale on the plants earlier this week tipped my hand. I cut down the ceder shrubs that I hate (just not a ceder shrub kind of girl) and ordered a ph test kit. All was going well until this afternoon when I tested the soil.

I have a blueberry bush and a raspberry bush I need to get in the ground. I'm in zone 3a, so winter is fast approaching. I've been told by one person not to use any fertilizer because I don't want to encourage growth of any sort at this time and by someone else to use starter fertilizer to encourage root development before the ground freezes. What do you think of it?
I was looking for a good early variety and was told that this one is ready to pick by June 1-15 in Indiana. I'm also told that this is one of the best-tasting.

Ok, so I'm working out a list of supplies I'll need to get when I get home and those that my boyfriend can get from his grandfather (who's grown his own produce forever).
